Delivery, Enrollment, and Facilitation
This is a mastery-based course with no discussion forums. The course will be delivered in a fully online format. This course is non-facilitated, and is designed to be completed independently. It is self-paced, with an enrollment period of 60 days, which begins immediately upon confirmation of registration. A Help Forum is included in the course that will be carefully monitored by an online facilitator.
Description
The purpose of this learning module is to provide further background into the concept of professionalism and to provide a possible resource for a teacher who might be looking to refine/extend/support his or her own growth in professionalism. This learning module is not designed to enhance or replicate evaluator training. In this module, you will explore articles and videos to assist you in creating plans and new goals for learning in the classroom and school improvement. You will explore articles defining professional development and reflect on the key features of PD and how it impacts teachers professionally. You will learn strategies to communicate with other educators in staff meetings and professional development and build collaboration. Using a planning sheet, you will create a professional development grant proposal to attend a conference, workshop or professional development course that fits the long term vision of your school or district.
Major Assessment Artifact
In the Major Assessment Artifact for this learning module, you will reflect on the course readings and then locate a professional development opportunity; describe your rationale for selecting this opportunity and how it supports your professional development at this time; and discuss how you plan to implement what you learn and/or receive from participating in this experience with your students/colleagues.
Prerequisites
This is an intermediate level course for teachers, literacy coaches, curriculum specialists, professional development specialists, or other school personnel. Participants are expected to have regular access to computers with Internet access. In addition, participants should be proficient with browsing the Internet, uploading and downloading content, navigating to computer files, and with using word processing software, email, and attachments.
