Description
This course, R2S Instructional Strategies for Reading – Understanding Dyslexia to Support Struggling Learners K-12, is designed to help K-12 educators understand dyslexia. Participants will use the book Conquering Dyslexia by Jan Hasbrouck, Ph.D. Dr. Hasbrouck, a leading researcher on reading fluency, reading assessment, and second language learners. In Conquering Dyslexia, Dr. Hasbrouck shares the instructional approaches that work best for students who have this disorder, and the most current information for parents so they can advocate for their children and communicate with educators effectively. Participants will be able to explain what dyslexia is and how it impacts students as well as identify the signs to look for when concerned about dyslexia. Participants will also understand how dyslexia is diagnosed and explore the teaching of reading using a structured reading approach with supports such as Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
